James Earl “Jimmy” Carter was born on October 1, 1924 and lived to see 100. He passed away on December 29, 2024. Jimmy Carter was the 39th president of the United States. He was 52 years old when he took office in 1977. Prior to his presidency, he was the Georgia State Senator from 1963-1967 and the 76th governor of Georgia from 1971-1975.
Jimmy Carter only served one term in office as president. During this time America struggled under high inflation and interest rates, and a hostage situation in Iran. Many lost confidence in his leadership, culminating in his loss to Ronald Reagan in the following election. In is post-presidency years, however, he gained much respect and admiration for his continual humanitarian efforts. Carter spent years working for peace, human rights, education, agriculture, and health care around the world. He also wrote several books on the subjects of peace and human rights. Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his efforts.
